Wills and Estates; Estates Litigation
Why do I need a will?
Having a will can reduce uncertainty on your, or your loved one’s passing.
It’s hard to think about passing away, but having a will allows you increased certainty in your affairs, and allows you to customize which family members, friends, charities, or other individuals organizations will receive a share of your net worth after your passing. It also directs debts and funeral expenses to be paid out of your estate.
Other considerations include: do you have a non-married spouse, or some other family member who does not fall under the Rules of Intestacy who you wish to support after your passing? In some situations, loved family members may not be legally allowed to share in your estate after your passing without a will.
We offer a free 30-minute consultation to discuss why you may need a will, different considerations to think about for your will, and what it may cost you.
Powers of Attorney
There are two Powers of Attorney: one for property-related decisions, and one for health-care related decisions. Both are very important documents, as they will streamline the process for a trusted individual to make decisions on your behalf when you are unable or unwilling to for yourself.
Many people decide to complete their Powers of Attorney with their will. We feel so strongly about Powers of Attorney that we offer complimentary (simple) powers of attorney with every will completed with our office.
Estates can get messy, or complicated. Please call our office if you have any questions concerning litigating a deceased’s estate.
